Sustainable energy, known more commonly as green power, it the provision of energy such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Clean, green energy sources are most often regarded as including all renewable sources, such as biofuels, solar power, wind power, wave power, geothermal power, and tidal power. I also includes technologies that improve energy efficiency.
Clean, green energy technologies are essential contributors to sustainable energy as they generally contribute to world enery security, reducing dependence on fossil fuel resources and providing opportunities for mitigating greenhouse gases. First and second generation technologies have entered the markets, and third generation technologies heavily depend on long term research and development commitments, where the public sector has a role to play.
